Volunteer Opportunities

applynow_button.jpgEmergency Department Volunteer.  Assists the health care team by greeting patients, assisting with patient's room assignments, communicating with familes, and maintaining patient comfort while in the Emergency Department. Responsibilities also include restocking shelves, making sure that rooms are ready for patients, delivering lab tests, and escorting patients for X-rays and tests. 

Information Desk.  Provides information to patients' familes and visitors about the Medical Center, patient room information, and Dunklau Gardens resident room information. It is imperative that Information Desk Volunteers have excellent customer service skills that are necessary in providing a positive patient/visitor experience.

Escort.  Greets patients and visitors with a warm and friendly approach. Escorts patients/visitors to their appointments in various areas of the Medical Center. Maintains a supply of wheelchairs for close and convenient access for patients/visitors.

Delivery Services:  Mail, Newspapers, Flowers.  Obtains and sorts patient mail and delivers to patients/residents.  Volunteers also assist with the delivery of flowers and daily newspapers throughout the Medical Center.

Departmental.  Assists with filing, typing, copying, answering phones, as well as other clerical departments, such as Volunteer Services, Patient Accounts, Human Resources, Senior Solutions, etc.  Duties may also include working on various projects as needed, such as large mailings and preparing patient packets.

Surgery Waiting Room.  Serves as a liaison between the Surgery Department and physicians and the patient's families.  Duties also include maintaining a log of friends/families accompanying the patient in surgery and maintaing close contact with the Surgery Department which gives regular updates on a patient's status.

Snack Service.  Provides refreshments via a snack cart to families and visitors throughout the Medical Center's lobbies and waiting areas.

Hospice.  Hospice volunteers enhance the quality of life by providing emotional support, friendship, respite services and companionship for people in the final phase of a terminal illness.

Dunklau Gardens.  Many volunteering opportunities are available to provide service and interaction with residents, including gardening, companionship and coffee/snack cart.  

Tour Guides.  Provides tours on a weekly basis to area third grade classes.  Assists the Public Relations, Marketing and Volunteer Services Department with other tours, upon request.

The Look Nook.  Provides service to customers in a retail setting.  Proceeds are periodically donated back to Fremont Health.  The Look Nook is located adjacent to the main lobby on first floor.

The Look Nook hours:
Monday - Friday  9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m
Saturday  1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m
Sunday   1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
