Sommerer Receives NHA “Caring Kind” Award

The Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA) recognized 81 hospital workers for their excellence in service by bestowing them with the NHA’s prestigious “Caring Kind” award during its annual convention held in October.

Among the recipients was Karen Sommerer, LPN, who was selected earlier this year as Fremont Health’s Caring Kind award recipient for her 41 years of service to patients and providers in Fremont Health clinics.

The Caring Kind award is a time-honored tradition of the Nebraska Hospital Association (NHA), recognizing outstanding healthcare employees who have demonstrated compassion for patients, cooperation with coworkers, and dedication to providing the best care possible. Hospitals across the state select one Caring Kind recipient from within their respective institutions to be recognized during the NHA Annual Convention.

“No matter the specialty, provider or clinic location, Karen has always assisted whenever and wherever she is needed,” said Peg Kennedy, Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive at Fremont Health. “Karen leads by example and is dedicated to teamwork and the Fremont Health organization. She always puts others first. Karen not only exemplifies caring in the clinics but it extends into the communities where she volunteers regularly and represents Fremont Health at many community events. Karen lives the Fremont Health Mission, Vision and Values each and every day.”

Congratulations to Karen and the other worthy award finalists from Fremont Health: Nikea Brady, Dunklau Gardens; Sarah Knuppel, Acute Care Nursing; Rita Lauer, Home Care; and Stan Naydo, Food and Nutrition Services.
