The CT (Computed Tomography) or also referred to as a CAT Scanner, allows physicians and technologists to detect tumors, as well as numerous other problems, at an earlier stage of development, using fast multi-slicing technology with 3D display.
Fremont Health has two CT Scanners. A 32-slice CT and a 16-slice CT. These scanners acquire 16 or 32 "slices" (images) per rotation, where previous CT acquired only one slice. The result is greater clarity and speed.
The multi-slice CT is used for stroke and cardiovascular disease detection; trauma; orthopedics; and studies of isolated body areas like the head, sinuses, abdomen and chest. Doctors can view the size, shape and position of soft tissue structures such as the lungs, liver, kidneys and other organs. It can also perform screenings that used to be done invasively, such as CT angiography and coronary calcium screening.
