PET Scanning is sensitive technology used to precisely identify tumors and diseases that other devices may miss, helping with cancer diagnosis.
The primary use of PET scanning is to check for spread of cancerous tumors. It has proven effective in cancers of the lung, colon, breast, prostate, lymphatic system and others; as well as proving beneficial in diagnosing Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, other brain disorders and heart disease. The PET scanner, with the help of computer technology, allows the physician to pinpoint specific areas of concern.
These scans are often partnered with CT (Computed Tomography) scans, which show shape and structure, whereas the PET scan shows function.
