Test Preparation

Eating, drinking, fasting and/or taking medications vary depending on the test. In general, fasting for 12 hours is required for lipid profiles. Medications should be taken as instructed by your physician.

If permitted, drink plenty of water before you have your blood drawn. Water keeps your body hydrated and increases blood volume, causing veins to dilate.

Have your physician explain the reason for your test. Only he/she knows why it is needed.
