Restricted Items

We must restrict any hazardous items that could jeopardize your safety or the safety of other patients. The following is a list of restricted items. Some of these items may be used in certain instances under direct supervision and require prior approval from the treatment team.

  • Sharp items of any kind
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Personal electronic devices of any kind including cell phones, electronic games, computers, radios and MP players
  • Cameras
  • Plastic bags
  • Anything that is flammable (matches or lighters)
  • Glass containers, mirrors, glass or metal bottles, or any other containers
  • Scissors or razors
  • Toiletries containing alcohol
  • Makeup products with mirrors or glass
  • Medication or over-the-counter drugs
  • Clothes hangers
  • Clothing determined to be inappropriate for the unit
  • Aerosol cans
  • Curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers
  • Hair coloring or permanent solutions
  • Home remedies
  • Balloons
  • Belts, suspenders or clothing with removable waist strings, scarves or bands
  • Tobacco products
  • Nail file and clippers
  • Needles
  • Pantyhose, tube socks, nylons or tights
  • Backpacks, suitcases with straps
  • Plastic wrap
  • String and yarn
  • Q-tips
  • Compact discs
  • Keys
  • Jewelry with sharp edges
  • Beverages or food
  • Clothing with draw strings
  • Heated pads with cords

It is the responsibility of the staff to prevent harm from occurring to any patient. The treatment team may restrict other items as necessary. You can show your concern for others by immediately telling a staff person if you know of someone who is planning to hurt herself/himself or others.
